What is a campaign?
A campaign is an opt-in list of your subscribers text numbers based on one key word. It can be defined as a subscription list or specific marketing event (poll, sweepstakes, etc). A campaign typically utilizes a primary keyword, and you can setup unlimited secondary/alternate keywords. Voting campaigns include unlimited voting keywords and do not require a primary keyword. Therefor a campaign would consist of one keyword such as “PIZZA” and the list of subscribers who have opted-in to receive information using keyword “PIZZA.”
What is a keyword?
A keyword is what the customer texts in to the short code number to opt-in to your campaign. You may select any keyword you wish provided it has not yet been choose by another customer of ours. A best practice is to keep the KW’s short and direct to your market. Keywords are used to identify a particular campaign on a given shortcode. Users will text a keyword to a shortcode to participate in a campaign. An example of a keyword would be the word JOIN – Text the word “JOIN” to the phone number 83936.
With subscription list campaigns, your customers can opt-in or subscribe in two ways: (1) your customers can sign up or participate in a text message marketing campaign by sending a simple text message with the campaign KEYWORD to a shortcode (i.e. Text “JOIN” to 83936) (2) customers can subscribe by entering their phone number at your website using a website sign up form we provide to all clients at no charge if needed.
What is a subscription list?
Subscription lists are used to promote events, specials, coupons, etc to a subscription list. Subscribers are required to opt-in (either by sending the list KEYWORD via text, or through a web widget), and can choose to opt out at any time. You then market to that list by sending offers, specials, coupons or announcements. You are not able to combine subscription lists. If you start a separate campaign, customers who are subscribed on a separate keyword list would have to also opt-in to receive campaign information form the new subscription list.
How do I build a subscription list?
You can easily build a mobile opt-in list through traditional on- and off-line marketing channels such as your company website, sales flyer’s, radio ads, print ads, newspaper ads… the possibilities are endless. The simplest and fasted way to build a list is with in store signage at your check outs or through existing email and upcoming print advertising. You will have immediate access to our 30 Day Action Guide, after signing up, which will show you how to build a steady stream of subscribers. You will also be emailed twice a month will our marketing strategy newsletter that will help you to grow all aspects of your business.
What is SMS?
SMS stands for “Short Message Service”, and is also known as text messaging. It is used to send short, 160 character messages to and from cell phones. A message sent via a Short Message Service. 160 characters in length and most commonly referred to as a text message.
What is a shortcode?
Shortcode is the 5 digit number that customers text in your keyword to opt-in to your campaign. The Moto Message shortcode is 83936. We are adding more shortcodes so you will soon be able to choose your shortcode. Customers who would like their own unique non-shared shortcode should contact us today. There is an 6-8 week application process which we will handle 100%.
Do I have to use the Moto Message shortcode?
To set up a basic marketing campaign you do need to use the Moto Message shortcode. If you would like to have your own dedicated short code, not shared by any other clients, we can set up a dedicated account. Depending on your marketing needs, this is a great investment and solution. Dedicated short codes require an upfront investment and approximately 8 week lead time while your code is approved by major cell phone carriers. Contact us for this service.
What is an opt-in message?
The initial message a user receives when joining a subscription based program. The message is required to instruct users how to unsubscribe from receiving future alerts by replying “STOP”. For example: Thanks for signing up for JOES. To unsubscribe, reply STOP JOES. Up to 2 messages per week, std rates apply.
Is the customer charged for receiving the text message from me?
Customers are charged Standard Text Messaging rates per their cell phone plan. What that means is that a message counts against their text message plan (if they have one) or incur the standard text message rate per their cell phone plan. Moto Message campaigns are standard rate.
How long does it take to set up a new campaign?
With Moto Message’s easy to use interface, you can literally have a new campaign set to broadcast your message and sign up subscribers in under 5 minutes.
How big can the message be that I send to my customers?
Messages are limited to 160 characters including spaces and punctuation. Messages that are most effective are short, concise and avoid using text speak or abbreviations not common to all people.
What needs to be included with each message I send out?
In order to comply with CAN-SPAM and carrier regulations each message must also include a way for the subscriber to opt-out of your campaign. We also recommend adding your business name and phone number. Plenty of examples are provided inside the members area.
Are keywords case sensitive?
No, the keyword “PIZZA” is the same as “pizza”, “Pizza”, “pIzzA”, etc, when customers opt in to your marketing campaign.

Do I need to have Internet access to fully utilize Moto Message?
No! You can set campaigns to run on scheduled times. You can also set up new campaigns from Internet enabled cell phones or call Moto Message directly to have us set up the campaign for you.
Is there a limit to how many subscribers I can have?
There is no limit to how many subscribers you can have. Our dedicated mobile marketing system can accommodate hundreds or tens of thousands of subscribers on your list. Your subscriber list will grow by the day, week, month and year if you follow the marketing system we provide and your sales will grow right along with it. There is no limit to the number of messages you can send at one time; Moto Message can accommodate any number of mobile subscribers. Also the price of your plan never changes as your campaigns grow. You’ll pay the same amount whether you have 1 or 10,000 subscribers.
How many promotions/ campaigns can I run at once?
You have the ability to run as many promotions and campaigns as you wish at once. We have found that the most successful businesses that employ text message marketing text their customers no more than once a week. This allows your offers to maintain limited and special appeal which result in a higher redemption rate. If you were to text your customers daily or more than twice a week, your message becomes less effective and may be seen as “spammy”, much like email marketing towards your customers.
It is also wise to test different promotions in your first months while using text marketing to find those campaigns which result in the highest return on investment for your business.
How long does it take subscribers to receive my text message?
Once you activate a new campaign or start a new text message blast, customers will receive the campaign message within seconds. Customers who also opt-in to your campaign will receive back your message within seconds also. Sometimes a longer variance will exist due to issues with the carrier.
Is Moto Message available outside the United States?
Currently Moto Message only supports customers inside the United States. You ARE able to access your account outside the US as an advertiser and make changes or start new campaigns.
How do customers opt-out of receiving messages?
Your customers can text STOP in reply to a message you sent them. The Moto Message system will automatically unsubscribe them from all future campaigns. They can also call or email Moto Message directly and we will take care of it for you. You as the advertiser are also able to delete cell phone numbers from your campaigns inside your member area.
Can I include links to websites?
This technology is not supported by the largest cell phone carriers as of yet. Only a small percentage of your customers would be able to access this link and we feel it best to provide rich message content instead of messages filled with links that take up space and do not increase sales. Moto Message will support this emerging marketing technology once top-tier cellular companies decide to accommodate it.
Can I include pictures or video?
Moto Message does not support this ability currently. Currently only 3 cell phone carriers support this emerging technology and the cost barrier for you to enter this market makes it a bad investment choice as of yet. As soon as we are able to provide you with a mobile marketing solution that is affordable and provides a high ROI, you will have that option.
Do my subscribers need to have Internet access on their phones?
No, any cell phone that has text message capabilities will be able to view your messages.
