Which Mobile Marketing Mediums Lead to Purchases?

A study by ExactTarget finds that 41% of smartphone users have used a text message received via a mobile marketing campaign to make a purchase.  The study also shows that 56% have used an email message received on their smart phone to also make a purchase. We would believe that if the study was conducted amongst all mobile phone users, the percentage of people who used a text message to make a purchase would be higher due to the fact that smartphones only account for roughly 45% of all mobile phones. Over 97% of mobile phone users send and receive text messages while the number that use mobile email is much lower.

These customers only want to receive marketing messages about your restaurant, and will not be responsive to drink or other lounge related promotions.  Going a step further, you will find that certain customers are “lunch crowd” only – more than likely because of the proximity that you are to where they work.  These customers are probably only interested in getting messages about lunch.

Many are turning away from traditional marketing customer acquisition methods such as newspaper, direct mail, yellow pages as these mediums have been dying over the past couple years. Online marketing methods such as a small business website, search engine optimization, Google Places, social media and text message marketing have shown huge increases from 2010 to 2011. Certain methods such as mobile marketing and social media also stand to show the highest increases as we move towards 2012.

a February 2011 survey by Bredin Business Information showed 85.8% of all small businesses use their website as a lead generation tool for new business. Also marketing to a list of existing customers through email and text messages show high penetration at 74.3% and 49.3% respectively. Search marketing showed a big increase from 2010 rising 36%.  While you don’t need to engage in all 15 online marketing tactics listed in the study to grow your business, it does pay to have an integrated effort in the methods you do choose to implement.

On your website have links to your social media profiles. On your social media posts, drive traffic back to your website to consumers may find more information about your business and covert to a paying customers. On social media and your website, implement lead capture forms for email and mobile marketing to convert these leads onto high redemption rate lists. Whatever methods you choose to engage in, make sure you have the time to actively keep up your presence on the sites and engage your customer base.

SMS Advertising Continues Growth into 2011

SMS advertising continues strong growth from 2010 into 2011 for brands and the marketing agencies that manage their campaigns.  Traditional advertising has been undergoing a shift from offline and print marketing to mobile advertising from SMS marketing to mobile ad display. Software company, STRATA, that engages in media buying and selling, polled marketing agencies about their customer’s preferences for the first quarter of 2011.

25% of agencies polled said they are working with clients who are asking for SMS advertising. This is up from 15% of the fourth quarter of 2010. Even with the increase and media attention of smartphones such as iPhones and Androids, a majority of consumers still use standard or feature mobile phones. SMS marketing allows companies to reach all consumers at a very low cost.
