Why People ‘Like’ Your Brand on Facebook
Google has released new details into personal ‘like’ habits on Facebook. What I found interesting is that people do not join a fan page simply because they like the business but due to the prospect for discounts or rewards.
The data shows that the biggest reason consumers are ‘liking’ brands is for the possibility of discounts (25%). Brands might like the second reason even better though – to show others they support the brand (18%).

“So when developing your social media strategy, keep in mind that consumers are looking primarily to receive promotions, with secondary goals of learning new information first and being entertained,” says Heidi Spector of the Google Retail Team.
These trends are the same reason people join a text marketing list. Consumers are turning to rewards and incentives for purchases now more than ever. When promoting your text message marketing campaign be sure to tell your customers what they will be receiving. This will increase opt-ins and ROI as your list grows larger.

I know it does seem self -serving but I am one of those people who “like” brands on facebook in prospect of getting some discounts. I mean come on, it’s recession and small things like this could be of help. And besides, everybody have always liked “freebies”

Hehe, the survey’s result about liking the brands in FB made me smile, I kind’a expected that too. It’s almost similar to self-preservation instinct ya know. People really likes receiving promotions and discounts because people nowadays are very practical. Businessmen are not the only ones who likes to profit.
